Stem Clubs and Tutoring
I’m Ben Maki. I’m good at math and I bet you can be too.
I’ve been teaching math and science for almost twenty years in the classroom and at outdoor education camps.
Math Club
Math is primarily useful. And useful things are so much easier to learn. At math club, we’ll play games, do activities, make stuff and solve real world problems…all with math. Its not a “math class” though. The activities will be hands-on and based on real-world uses of math. I only call it Math Club so we remember why we’re really there.
Clubs are designed to meet you at your level: upper elementary, middle school or high school.
Fraction Nation
Focusing on 3rd-5th grade concepts: Number sense, fractions & problem solving and logic.
Pi-rates
6th – 8th Grade concepts. We’ll be using functions, variables and basic graphing.
The Quadratics
We’ll be using algebra, trigonometry, statistics, calculus, whatever the members are studying.

Tech Clubs
We’re not going to let the robots win. Tech clubs will give students opportunities to learn and practice tech skills in a variety of areas. Clubs will be short term commitments, about 6-8 weeks each.
Game Coding
Learn to code a video game using scratch, a visual programming language.
Web Design
Build a web page using HTML, CSS , Java and an introduction to WordPress.
Arduino
Learn how to use Arduino to build projects that can interact with the real world.
Private Tutoring
Sometimes it helps to have a little focused attention. I am available for private and small group tutoring sessions. Get homework help, review for a test, or just get a different perspective on the concepts.
I got you.
