What is Monday School?
Monday school is an extension of the “Curriculum Time” at Honeybee’s Adventure School (though it could be attended apart from that). Basically, it is a one-room schoolhouse approach to education that allows parents to continue to homeschool their children, but also have access to the support, accountability, and community of a teacher and other students.
Why?
Because learning happens best in a community. And so many kids have trouble focusing on screens or even books when they are home alone-even with their parents. Monday School gives students a day of focused curriculum time with an experienced teacher.
What do I need to join the School?
- Ideally, you are also a student at Honeybee’s Adventure School. This is not a requirement though.
- Curriculum. We are using The Good and The Beautiful curriculum (though it is possible to use your own, please ask Mr. Ben about this). Students are required to have their own core curriculum book for Math and ELA. Mr. Ben will provide the “accessories”: flash cards, calculators, art supplies, etc. You may purchase these items from the Good and Beautiful website, or from Mr. Ben when you sign up.

What does Monday School Look Like?
We will be spending about two hours studying Math and ELA, following the lessons as they are laid out in the books. Each student will be responsible for completing the lesson they are on for that day (at least). Mr. Ben will be supporting them by teaching the initial lesson, checking answers, answering questions and encouraging them to continue working. The Good and The Beautiful curriculum is designed to be completed in one year at 4 lessons per week, this is the rate that will be encouraged.
During the third hour, we’ll be studying a science or Social Studies topic. These are taught “family style” with workbooks designed for each level of student: same lessons, differentiated workbooks. This is the hour we’ll be putting our Math and ELA skills to work on real-world topics.
